A Program in Our Community This Weekend

“We are Going to Pick Potatoes” Sunday, October 27, 2013

Norwegian author Irene Levin Berman will share her account of growing up in Norway during the Holocaust, discussing a fascinating part of Jewish and Norwegian History.  Please join us in the Small Hall at TI Synagogue at 7:00 P.M for this program, put together by the Holocaust Committee of the Federation.

Portrait of Jewish Americans – Pew Research Center – News, Opinion and Conversation

A key topic of conversation in Jewish circles this week (and last) has been the release of the first large scale national demographic study of American Jewish Life in more than a decade.  There are (of course) many ways to look at data, and sure enough pundits around the country offer opinions that range from “doom and gloom” to“all is well and nothing new”.  I am of the opinion that we are better served when looking for what we can do(some say must do) and found the ideas expressed in a Forward Op-Ed by JFNA’s president and CEO Jerry Silverman, and chair of the board of trustees Michael Siegal, to be a good place to start. I also liked the proactive approach from Jay Sanderson in the Los Angeles Jewish Journal. Enjoy your reading.

Campaign Pacesetters Evening

Richard Greenfield, Publisher of the Connecticut Jewish Ledger, All things Jewish, and the Jewish Ledger of Western MA, will be the guest of honor and speaker at the annual “Pacesetters” evening of appreciation on Thursday November 7th. The evening is a great opportunity to show your support for our community at a “Pacesetter” level (a $500 or greater contribution to the annual Federation campaign).
