The Bulletin - A Community Update for May 30, 2014

This week we will be celebrating the holiday of Shavuot as we commemorate the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai.  Sadly, the attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels last week reminds us it is not a time for celebration only.  Heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families of the victims in Belgium and around the world as we condemn such senseless violence.  As reports of rising anti-Semitism throughout Europe and even Central America continue, let us hope that the perpetrators of violence and intolerance are censured by both the law and their peers.

As days of summer approach – and with them the June 30th close of our fiscal year – I want to thank all of you who have made a donation or pledge to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford’s 2013-2014 annual campaign and ask those who have not to please consider renewing your support.

Your gift made the performance by Israel’s Shir Ba’Emek (check out this clip) possible.  It allows us to provide funding for the UMass Dartmouth Center for Jewish Culture, Holocaust education, scholarships, and many more meaningful programs.  Requests for financial support for next year are coming in and we would like to be able to say yes to as many of them as possible.

None of that is possible without you.

Make a gift online here or mail to Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford, 467 Hawthorn Street, Dartmouth, MA, 02747.

Shabbat Shalom and happy holiday,
