The Bulletin - A Community Update for June 6, 2014
Strengthening Young Jews’ Jewish Identity
This week Israel approved the Government of Israel-World Jewry Joint Initiative, which aims to “help ensure the continuity of the Jewish people by strengthening young Jews' Jewish identity and enhancing connections between world Jewry and the State of Israel.” On behalf of Jewish Federations across North America, JFNA released the following statement: "The Jewish Federations of North America have been pleased to work alongside many other organizations in the planning, visioning and thinking about how to bring this initiative to the forefront. Today, the Government of Israel has taken a historic leap forward with the passage of the resolution. Throughout history we have seen what we can accomplish when we speak as one voice; and we are looking forward to working with the GOI, Foundations, the Jewish Agency and others to act now and maximize the opportunity we have in front of us."
Campaign: There’s Still Time!
Thank you to those who promptly responded to our campaign close request by making their pledges this week. We have 25 days left before the June 30th close of our fiscal year and I invite those who have not yet made a donation to consider making one now.
Your support made the performance by Israel’s Shir Ba’Emek (check out this clip) possible. It allows us to provide funding for Kosher Meals on Wheels, support the Center for Jewish Culture at UMASS Dartmouth, offer scholarships and support meaningful programs locally and abroad. Requests for financial support for next year are coming in and we would like to be able to say yes to as many of them as possible.
Make a gift online here or mail to Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford, 467 Hawthorn Street, Dartmouth, MA, 02747.
Thank you to the men and women who donated blood to the Southcoast Hospital Group’s Blood Bank on Yom Ha’atzmaut this year. From these generous individuals, the Blood Bank collected 17 pints of blood.
