The weekly Bulletin was already scheduled when this happened so I decided to add this in a separate note. As readers of this Bulletin know very well, I consider Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib to be two of the most hateful, anti-Semitic, shallow and frankly repulsive people to ever serve in the US Congress.
I hope they are not re-elected for another term. That said, the decision by Israel today to not allow them entry is a colossally bad one. I'm not even talking about the fact that they are American members of Congress, which should be enough no matter their politics. And I'll even pretend that I believe they actually wanted to visit (I don't). By not allowing them entry, Bibi is playing into their hands and they can now hang this on Israel, which I am certain they will.
President Trump did their re-election a service a few weeks ago. Bibi has done the same. This is foolish and is hardly the areas where one wishes to see the US and Israel collaborate on policy. With elections in Israel a month away I hope the next prime minister invites them to visit early and often.
The Bulletin is a weekly email from Amir Cohen, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford. I welcome your feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org.
